Interview mit Park Chan Wook

Auf The Straits Times ein Interview mit dem koreanischen Regisseur Park Chan Wook:

You seem to be fascinated by this theme of revenge. Why?

Revenge is an act requiring enormous energy and passion. A tormentor has to give up every pleasure and comfort in his everyday life. However, vengeance also brings another kind of pleasure, which is very dark and leads to nothing in the end. Even if the tormentor fulfils his revenge and kills his victim, he'd not be able to, say, bring back his lost years nor can his dead wife return. This paradox in vengeance, which channels all your energy and passion into such meaningless things, attracts me most.
