The Brown Bunny - US-DVD im August
Vincent Gallos vielgescholtener, heißgeliebter The Brown Bunny hat nun einen Termin für eine Veröffentlichung in den USA auf DVD. Laut DavisDVD ist der Film für Mitte August angesetzt. Ob sich die zwar zensierte, aber sehr gut ausgestattete DVD aus Japan damit erübrigt, steht abzuwarten.
Währenddessen hat Gallo von unerwarteter Seite Rückendeckung erhalten. Jean-Luc Godard äußerte sich denkbar positiv über Gallos kontrovers diskutiertes Werk:
Godard's enduring passion in American cinema is for John Cassavetes, and for a few experimenters and avant-gardists, but the old underground is dead, he says. 'These days, advertising does all that, and technically a lot better.' There is, however, one recent American film which Godard really admires " as good, he says, as the great French ethnographic film- maker Jean Rouch in his day. It's Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny. Am I hearing this right? Jean-Luc Godard likes The Brown Bunny? The universally reviled vanity project that was practically laughed off screen in Cannes two years ago? 'Ah oui. Everyone hated it, it was magnifique. So what if it's narcissistic? So much the better if a narcissist makes a good film.'
